USE CASE

See the news that reaches your portfolio

Portfolio news monitoring filters the market’s news down to the items that reach your holdings, directly or through a supplier, customer, lender or rule, and says why each one matters. The useful result is short: a few items, each with the link to your position and the source behind it.

Why ticker alerts miss most of it

News alerts usually fire when a story names a company you own. The stories that matter most often name somebody else: a supplier that warns, a customer that changes its plans, a regulator that consults on a rule, a port that closes. Ticker alerts stay silent, while a general news feed shows everything and leaves you to find the few items that matter.

How to filter news to what matters

Start from what you hold, not from the news.

  • Map who each holding depends on: suppliers, customers, lenders, regions and regulators.
  • Watch those connections, not only the tickers.
  • When something changes, follow it to the holdings it reaches and estimate how much is at stake.
  • Compare it with the reason you own each position: does it support it, weaken it or break it?
  • Keep the source for every step, so the conclusion can be checked.

When it matters

Timing is the other half. A change that reaches a holding is most useful as it happens, not at the next quarterly review. Sometimes it confirms your view, sometimes it tells you to look again; either way you see it while there is still time to act on your own judgment.

An example

A portfolio holds a consumer electronics brand, a logistics company and a specialty chemicals maker. A port that handles a large share of one region’s component exports closes for a week. None of the three holdings appears in the story.

Following the connections shows that the electronics brand sources a key component through that port, the logistics company earns a large share of revenue on that route, and the chemicals maker is unaffected. Two items reach the portfolio, each with the supplier or route link and the filing behind it; the third holding needs no attention.

Illustrative example. The companies are not real, and nothing on this page is investment advice.

How Clargus monitors what reaches you

Clargus keeps a live map of how companies, suppliers, customers and regulators connect, and remembers what you hold and why. When an event arrives, it follows the chain to the companies you own, shows each link and the source behind it, and checks the change against the theses behind your positions. What matters, when it matters.

The same check can run on a schedule, so the portfolio is watched when you are not.

FAQs

Questions about this use case

How do I know which news affects my portfolio?

Map who each holding depends on, watch those connections as well as the tickers, and follow each change to the holdings it reaches, keeping the source for every step.

How is this different from a news alert?

A news alert fires when a story names a company you own. Portfolio news monitoring also catches the stories that reach a holding through a supplier, customer, lender or rule, and explains the link.

Does Clargus tell me what to do with the news?

No. Clargus is a research tool. It shows what reaches your holdings and why; the decision stays with you.
